CHAPTER 3.1: COVERS OVERVIEW

Within the UTAU community, the media that is most commonly consumed is song covers. Usually this applies covers of VOCALOID songs but over the past years, there have been covers based on other songs apart from VOCALOID. Some covers may take on the form of choruses or even medleys.

The Anatomy Of A Cover

The majority of covers that use UTAU are usually made up of the following:

  • UST (UTAU Sequence Text)
  • Voicebanks (virtual singers that can read USTs)
  • Instrumental/off vocal

Some UTAU covers may come with a UST available for download, some with a custom instrumental or a mixing file. You can't just throw the above components together and call it a day, as a DAW is recommended to make an UTAU cover sound good.

Chapter 3 exists as a guide on making UTAU covers, so a lot of components will be discussed in the next few parts.
